About Quartyard

Quartyard is an open-air event space and urban beer garden in East Village, built entirely from repurposed shipping containers — designed by local architecture firm RAD LAB and constructed by FreeForm Construction. The current 1301 Market Street location opened in 2018 (the original ran 2014–2017 at a different lot) as a public-private partnership with the City of San Diego, turning a previously vacant lot into a daily-use civic space.

The site combines an eatery, full bar, Seahorse Coffee shop, art space, and outdoor concert yard — capacity around 425 standing or 123 seated. Programming is intentionally diverse: rising indie touring bands, hip-hop and electronic DJ sets, comedy nights, night markets, pop-up festivals, and community events. Most ticketed concerts are 21+, but Quartyard also hosts all-ages markets and family programming.

Notable for being one of the only purpose-built outdoor music venues in downtown SD — and an architectural success story turning a vacant city lot into a permanent fixture. Recommended for warm-night shows where the sky is the ceiling.
